NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF RURAL COLLEGE GIRLS
Author: Abha Khetarpal

In India with varying social customs and common beliefs against females there is a high prevalence of malnutrition amongst girls. It is reported that the nutritional status which is often poor during early life gets worsened as the adolescent growth spurt occurs. Girls in rural areas get married early before completion of their growth. The nutritional status and development of young girls is related to their nutritional requirements, dietary intake, dietary practices, cultural traditions and meal patterns. Diets of Indian girls especially in rural areas are inadequate both in terms of quality and quantity. They mainly consume cereal based food but grossly deficient in legumes, animal foods and green leafy vegetables. Against this background, the present study was conducted in a degree college of Haryana in March, 2019 to explore the current nutritional status of 130 young girls between 18-23 years of age. The nutritional status assessment was undertaken by using two techniques i.e. Anthropometric Measurement and Biomedical Impedance. In Anthropometric Measurement mainly three aspects: Height, Weight and BMI (Body Mass Index) were assessed. The height was taken barefoot in centimetres using a stadiometer. The weight was measured in kilogram without shoes and BMI was calculated. Bio-medical impedance was used for analysis of fat percent and visceral fat which was measured by Body Composition Monitor BFS08. The data so collected were compiled in MS Excel and analyzed for each age group using SPSS 16. The mean age of the studied subjects was 20.5 ±1.42 year. The mean height, weight and BMI of studied subjects were 156.34 ±7.52cm, 47.3 ±5.39kg, 19.37 ±1.95kg/m2 respectively which was low in comparison to the standards of ICMR (1990). The data of bio-medical impedance revealed that the fat per cent of the studied subjects lies between 14.31-18.43 per cent which should be 18-23 per cent on an average indicating less body fat and visceral fat between 1.25-2.42 per cent with very low deviations from standards which is quite normal. The studied data made it obvious that that there is a need to initiate intervention strategies for young girls and encourage the girls to improve their dietary intake so that their nutritional status and thereby of coming generations could be improved.

Author: Meenu Jain, Shailly Chauhan

Present era is a digital era. The digital revolution has shown its impact on almost everything which has changed the economy as a whole. Cryptocurrency which is purely a digital currency has emerged as an important financial software system. It is also a medium of exchange just like other currencies. Just like gold, cryptocurrency has turned out to be a new avenue of investment instrument. But unlike traditional currency it is independent of any control by any central authority as crypto currency was designed as peer-to-peer system. The functioning of cryptocurrency is possible using a technique which is known as cryptography. Cryptography is that technique in which readable information is transformed into coding language. These codes are not easy to crack. That is why cryptocurrency is the secure mode of making any transaction. This paper focuses on understanding what cryptocurrency is all about and its impact on the Indian economy.

21वीं शताब्दी में भी उपयोगी घरेलू चिकित्सा पद्धति
Author:

RIVER BANK EROSION AND ITS IMPACT ON OCCUPATIONAL STRUCTURE OF BRAHMAPUTRA VALLEY DWELLERS OF MORIGAON DISTRICT, ASSAM
Author: Pranab Jyoti Sarma

ABSTRACT
The Brahmaputra is a major river system of the world characterized by exceedingly high rates
of basin erosion. It also provides a classic example in which high erosion rates of the
drainage basins results in rapid aggradations of the channels and over bank flooding. Besides
being a major threat to continued productivity of the land, soil erosion is now viewed as a
major „non-point‟ source of environmental pollution.
Assam is predominantly rural in nature, and thus there exist a very limited scope for job
opportunity outside the agricultural sector apart from the government jobs and services. This
is more so in Morigaon district of Assam. Agricultural labour is seasonal work with long
period of unemployment and under employment during the year. Thus their income had
shown a downward trend in their new environment. It may be one of the causes for shift of
occupational structures of the erosion affected farming people towards activities outside the
primary sector. The erosion displaced persons of the district are found to be over-represented
in the informal sector because the flexibilities of work involved in such activities. It is also
observed within the primary sector that the occupational pattern of the erosion affected
people, there is a move from agriculture as the primary livelihood to agricultural labourers,
wage labourers in areas other than agriculture and various other occupations like rickshaw
pullers, cart pullers, small or petty traders etc. in or outside the district.
The assessment of the occupational status of the erosion displaced people in the changing
scenario in Morigaon district reveals that there is a significant transformation in occupation
pattern and their income. The erstwhile marginal farmers vanished in the post erosion
scenario while the proportion of agricultural worker declined.
Key Words: Morigaon, Basin erosion, Occupational structure, agriculture
