Abstract
This paper examined ecocritical themes, the relationship between literature and environment, natural landscapes, and human nature conflict in selected works of Amitav Ghosh. The discussion focused on maritime ecology, climate instability, migration and displacement, human and nature relationship, colonial environmental exploitation, biodiversity and wildlife, water as a narrative force, vulnerable landscapes, myth and ecology, Anthropocene anxiety, trade and environmental change, and ecological consciousness. The paper also examined the representation of the Indian Ocean, Sundarbans Delta, Venice, River Ganga, Morichjhapi and tidal islands, Mediterranean Sea, opium fields of Bihar, Sundarbans tiger territory, coastal Europe and South Asia, and colonial ports and harbours. The analysis further considered conflicts arising from colonial opium cultivation, maritime trade, settlement in fragile ecosystems, wildlife encroachment, industrial and global economic expansion, coastal urban expansion, exploitative trade networks, and refugee occupation of ecologically sensitive islands. The paper showed that these elements were connected through ecological instability, human vulnerability, migration, displacement, and the limits of human control over nature.
