LIMITATIONS OF HUMAN RIGHTS: AN ANALYSIS OF HEALTH ISSUES WITH INTERNATIONAL COMMITMENTS
Author: Amit Ludri

This article is an analysis about the health issues and its relationship with human rights. As a strong supporter of human rights researchers personally very much concerned with the emerging health issues and misuse of health data of patients. After the end of Second World War; movement for protection of the human beings and their basic needs became the center of discussion globally and leaders of the world brought into existence international recognized instruments like European Charter of Fundamental Rights. Later on most of the countries ratified and followed these instruments to provide basic amenities and human rights to their citizenry. With the passage of time, unfortunately or fortunately, globally, human rights became the center of discussion for all nations and several policies were framed but to no avail. In the era of digitalization, liberalization, plight for personal autonomy and transitional phase, new issues emerged and Europeans are not an exception to this.

NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF ADOLESCENT GIRLS
Author: Abha Khetarpal

The present study was conducted in DAV College for girls, Yamunanagar district of state Haryana in September, 2016 to explore the current nutritional status of 130 young girls between 18-23 years of age. The nutritional status assessment was undertaken by using two techniques i.e. Anthropometric Measurement and Biomedical Impedance. In Anthropometric Measurement mainly three aspects: Height, Weight and BMI (Body Mass Index) were assessed. The height was taken barefoot in centimetres using a stadiometer. The weight was measured in kilogram without shoes and BMI was calculated. Bio-medical impedance was used for analysis of fat percent and visceral fat which was measured by Body Composition Monitor BFS08. The data so collected was compiled in MS Excel and analyzed for each age group using SPSS 16. The mean age of the studied subjects was 20.5 ±1.42 year. The mean height, weight and BMI of studied subjects were 156.34 ±7.52cm, 47.3 ±5.39kg, 19.37 ±1.95kg/m2 respectively which was low in comparison to the standards of ICMR (1990). The data of bio-medical impedance revealed that the fat per cent of the studied subjects lies between 14.31-18.43 per cent which should be 18-23 per cent on an average indicating less body fat and visceral fat between 1.25-2.42 per cent with very low deviations from standards which is quite normal. The studied data made it obvious that that there is a need to initiate intervention strategies for young girls and encourage the girls to improve their dietary intake so that their nutritional status and thereby of coming generations could be improved as it is well established that the nutritional status of adolescent girls, the future mothers, contributes significantly to the nutritional status of the community.

INDIAN ECONOMY AMIDST CORONA PANDEMIC: AN ANALYSIS OF GOVERNMENT RESPONSE
Author: Amita

The Corona Pandemic has emerged as unprecedented crisis in human history in terms of its magnitude and impact. The crisis, at the moment, has left little options before the governments across the globe to contain the virus. In the name of remedy, masking and social distancing are the only prescription available presently and the extent and depth of the impact cannot be analysed. The crisis continues and so as the confusion to tackle it. The government response, in the initial stage, largely relied on the lockdown at the national level bringing to halt almost every economic activity but was relaxed in the later stage as the fear of collapse of economy dominated over the fatalities due to the pandemic. The government response at this stage rests upon saving the economy on the one hand and strengthening the healthcare system in the country on the other hand. The effectiveness of the responses cannot be measured accurately for the ‘wait and watch’ reason. The present paper looks into the magnitude of the problem and the relative effectiveness of the government responses.

PREMCHAND: A CHAMPION OF PEASANTS
Author: Sanjeev Gandhi

Premchand succeeded in painting a true picture of the joys and sorrows, the aspirations and deprivation of the Indian people, which broadened his vision. By depicting the deplorable conditions of the Indian peasantry and working class, he realised a sad lot of millions of workers all over the world, especially in the colonial countries. He is one of the greatest Indian writers who have intimately studied the life of a poor peasant and labourer and portrayed it with such a powerful imagination and wonderful act that it stands supreme in the history of Hindi fiction - nay in the annals of the entire Indian fiction.

THE NONVIOLENT STRUGGLE IN BURMA
Author: Manish Sharma

The nonviolent struggle in Burma, started with the Second World War, which marked a turning point as Burmese nationalists refused to aid British war efforts unless they received a promise of independence in return for their support. But with this many new faces emerged with regard to the families and others and one face which emerged out of them was of Aung San, the magnetic commander of the army whose family had been in opposition to British rule since annexation of the country in 1886. But with the death of Aung San the new leadership emerged in the form of Aung San Suu Kyi later on who followed the path of Gandhian Non-violence and practically showcased the true nonviolent soldier of the country. The present paper tried to look into different situations how a new Non-violent path was practically can be applied and how Gandhian philosophy is still relevant.

GROWTH OF EMPLOYMENT IN HARYANA
Author: Anita Moudgil

Structural change in output must be followed by structural change in employment providing more employment opportunities. Structural change is defined as changes in sectoral output and employment shares overtime. Quality employment opportunities must come along with economic growth, otherwise it will raise inequalities. Moreover, the share of informal sector must decline with the process of economic development. There has been jobless growth in Haryana economy because the process of structural change did not take place in the labour shares. In this backdrop, the present paper seeks to understand the process of structural change in labour shares, especially in the service sector in Haryana. Employment Diagnostic Analysis has been used. Haryana economy has followed the same path as Indian economy, where the structural change has not taken place on the employment front. Haryana‘s growth process remains jobless growth process. There is need to identify sectors with high demand potential and development of skills in those sectors to ensure gainful employment.

EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION OF CURRENT STATUS OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN INDIAN ORGANIZATIONS
Author: Madhu Bala

Purpose: This paper aims to investigate current status of corporate social responsibility in Indian organisations. Its purpose is to understand, document, analyze and review the corporate social responsibility perceptions of relatively selected companies in India after its legislation. Design/methodology/approach: This empirical study is based on a survey of 97 respondents of Indian organisations among top 500 fortune companies from various sectors. Out of the top 1000 companies in India, 125 companies were selected randomly from various sectors both from the public and private sectors also covered from manufacturing and service industries. The data was collected by using a structured questionnaire blended with suitable open-ended questions. The analysis has been carried out with the help of percentages and mean values using SPSS software. Findings: CSR has become progressively projected in the Indian corporate setting because organizations have recognized that besides growing their businesses, it is also important to shape responsible and supportable relationships with the community at large including almost all groups of people like rural community, nearby community, tribal community, customers, employees etc. CSR initiatives in India increasingly include lobbying for legally enforceable corporate standards that apply to all firms. Further the significant engagement of top management in setting up of CSR policies, deciding CSR activities, integrating CSR as a business strategy into their policies and practices and discharging CSR activities effectively in India will really take CSR to new heights. There is positive impact of CSR on the financial performance of company. But India is lacking in providing CSR training; which need to be given more thrust for a big success of CSR. Research/limitations/implications: This paper is of value to the researcher and practitioners of corporate social responsibility. The study, I hope, would help other small and medium sized companies, to actualize their CSR interventions by identifying appropriate target group of people to discharge CSR activities. This study can further be utilized to identify CSR training needs for their companies.

RENEWABLE ENERGY AND PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN: A REVIEW
Author: Indra Jakhar

We all understand that globalization and market liberalization has underpinned the development, but the crucial role played by energy cannot be ignored. Over the time the energy use is increasing but the sources of energy are not ample enough to fuel the growth, therefore renewable energy is the only viable option to make the growth sustainable. As women are the primary consumers and beneficiaries their active participation and involvement plays an important role in making shift to renewable sources of energy more successful. Against this background the paper reviews some studies which highlight the importance of gender equality in energy sector and upliftment of women especially in rural areas with increased participation and income generation avenues in areas of renewable energy.

PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS: INDIA V/S DEVELOPED COUNTRIES
Author: Minu Singal

Social exclusion covers various kind of social and economic problems and one of the largest groups that faces social exclusion is that of ‘People with Special Needs/People with Disability’. So much so, that many of us are not even aware of the term or its meaning. This paper is an attempt to give an idea about ‘People with Disability’, laws related to them in India and abroad and finally to discuss the kind of social inclusion policies and systems available for these people in developed countries and policies and systems that are available in India. This study is an effort to highlight the lack of good quality government infrastructure to train and educate children with special needs and lack of social awareness amongst Indians regarding the needs of these people. It is high time for the society as a whole to start thinking of ways to socially include and bring meaning to the lives of People with Special Needs.

PURDAH PRATHA: CULTURE OR CRITICISM
Author: Parul Singh, Vibhuti Rana

Purdah became combined to the legal and cultural etiquette of Rajasthan by the 15th century and was observed in outsiders as well as local residents. In Northern India many older women can easily be observed veiling their faces especially in rural areas. Women in ancient and medieval times barely covered their bodies, as well as their faces. Even today in many rural areas women reveal a great part of their bodies. The point is that the purdah system exists only in some parts of north India today, not in the west, south or the east. Obviously it is north India which bore majority of the attacks of various invaders throughout history and it is a non-deniable fact that during the foreign rule, women are often raped and kidnapped. That is why the system did not vanish in parts of North India. In fact it has become deep-rooted in some communities. Certainly, in the north-eastern parts of India such as Kerala, which were far away from the invading armies the status of women continued to improve. So really, it is a historical fact that the invading armies of the Turks, Arabs, the Mughals and the British had something to do with the purdah system in north India. It is broadly believed that the purdah system began after the Mughal invasion, in fact. There are several areas in the country where women do not wear the veil and there are several other areas where the veil has always been the practice, even before the Mughals came to India.

BREAKING SILENCES THROUGH THE WESTERN FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION: THE NARRATIVES OF THE ASIAN AND AFRICAN WRITERS
Author: Padam Preet Kaur

ABSTRACT:
Constant cultural and social repression and authoritarian subjugation of basic human rights have impelled the rise in number of Asian and African women to seek a ‘new narrative’ to resist the norms of race, gender and religious fundamentalism. These ‘native voices’ are either heard through mediating assistance in the writings by the Western women who make an attempt to bridge the gaps between ‘the silence’, ‘the voice’ and ‘the publication’ or directly through the narratives/memoirs assertively articulated by the ‘silenced’ women. Women in the precarious situations resulting from the political upheavals such as civil wars, the coups, the invasions and the intrusions have been striving for a more meaningful living within and outside their closed worlds. Furthermore, foreign invasions have exposed the suppressed women to exotic cultures which have ignited a spark in them to resist racism, fundamentalism and inequality of all kinds. These women are supported by other women through various International NGOs. A coterie of women from these organisations themselves have survived wars or live in exile due to civil disputes but have refused to be a victim and channelled their
experiences into helping women worldwide. These NGOs play crucial role in backing women in reconstruction, reconciliation and rehabilitation. These NGOs provide emotional and financial aid, right awareness, vocational and technical skills training and access to income generation tools. In the recent times the creative writers have ventured to depict both the diversity of women and the diversity within each woman, thus encouraging women to stir their inner selves so that they may themselves
choose the lives that they actually want to live.
