MANAGING RESOURCES AND WELL-BEING OF WOMEN
Author: Abha Khetarpal

In Indian households, often organized around extended families, violence can erupt in many forms. It occurs between siblings, sexual partners, in-laws, children and parents, young and old. Gender-based violence not only violates human rights, but also hampers productivity, reduces human capital and undermines economic growth. Countries have made some progress in addressing violence against women and girls. In 102 countries there are no specific legal provisions against domestic violence, and marital rape is not a prosecutable offence in at least 53 nations. While violence against women within a marriage has been a crime, the narrow scope of existing laws and lack of legal measures for victims led women’s groups to campaign for a new and broader civil statute. In 2005, they successfully pushed through the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. Violence against women and girls have far-reaching consequences, harming families and communities. The society should follow Gandhian Principles and should be free of class consciousness, gender bias, communal prejudices and exploitation of all kinds. It should represent a true humanity which promotes social harmony in thought and deed by offering equal opportunities to its members, irrespective of the gender, caste and creed. In keeping with our traditions and cultural heritage, women expect from society a genuine community feeling of mutual respect, trust and understanding. Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. It can include physical, sexual, psychological and economic abuse, and it cuts across boundaries of age, race, culture, wealth and geography. It takes place in the home, on the streets, in schools, the workplace, in farm fields, refugee camps, during conflicts and crises. It has many manifestations--from the most universally prevalent forms of domestic and sexual violence, to harmful practices, abuse during pregnancy, so-called honour killings and other types of femicide

HEALTH IN INDIA TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Author: Meenu Jain

The health of a nation is an essential component of development, vital to the nation’s economic growth and internal stability. Good health and economic prosperity tend to support each other. Ill health leads to low productivity ,reduces national savings and capital accumulation .Health status of population is seen as a development issue ,rather than just a medical one . Good health and well-being are the core dimensions of the SDGs Goal 3 which aims to ‘ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages’.It reflects the concern for human development by addressing emerging health issues. In India, theimprovement is reflected in some health indicators. MMR ( Maternal Mortality Rate ) and IMR(Infant Mortality Rate)have reduced . Life Expectancy has increased But inadequate expenditure on health , nutritional problems , inadequate sanitation and hygiene ,availability of clean drinking water ,burden of large population ,increasing mental health issues ,burden of communicable and Non-communicable diseases , shortage of health infrastructure, road traffic accidents, lack of health education , increasing out of pocket expenditure and inequity in access and affordability are among the main challenges in the health sector . As India is strongly committed to the 2030 Agenda, including the SDGs ,it has accorded priority to the health sector to achieve ‘Health for All’ .Against this background , this paper is focused on SDG goal 3on health .What are the main challenges in this sector ? Will India with her national healthpolicy 2017 be able to achieve this goal .

ANOREXIA NERVOSA: CINDERELLA OF PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS
Author: Saloni Jain, Anjana Kumari

Anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate among all psychiatric illnesses, as it can result in significant psychopathology along with life-threatening medical complications, which will be discussed in this review paper. This illness often results in people having a distorted image of their bodies. These are later followed by laxative abuse, self- induced vomiting, starvation, over exercising and so on; which subsequently manifests into a full-blown Eating Disorder (ED). According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5 Eating Disorders may be classified into anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and many more. Many studies on the prevalence of ED have been conducted in different countries thus far. Yet, Indian studies are very limited in number or incomplete due to the lack of a benchmark diagnostic technique for psychiatrists to be employed on the Indian population for the detection of ED. However, It has been observed that Anorexia nervosa has the most noteworthy death rate of any mental issue.1 This has a pervasiveness of about 0.3% in young ladies. It is more than twice as basic in high school females, with an approximate age of beginning of 15 years; 80-90% of patients with anorexia are female. Anorexia is the most widely recognized reason for weight dropping in young ladies and of admission to children and juvenile emergency clinic

DEVELOPMENT OF EMOTIONAL SOCIAL SKILLS
Author: Ritu Dua

Sporadic and inconsistent implementation remains a significant challenge for social and emotional skill interventions. Social development refers to the ability to behave in a manner that allows the individual to be accepted by both their peer and society as a whole. Emotional development encompasses the feelings that we have about over selves and others, as well as our capabilities to function well in world from a social standpoint. The study of age related changes human behavior is referred to as developmental psychology. Social- emotional development includes the child’s experience, expression and management of emotions and the ability to establish positive and rewarding relationships with others. (Cohen and others 2005) it encompasses both intra and interpersonal processes. Be a role model for forming and maintaining positive relationship with your friends. Children, Partner and Colleagues. Healthy social emotional development for infants and toddlers unfolds in an interpersonal context, namely that of positive ongoing relationships with familiar nurturing adults. Young children are particularly attuned to social and emotional stimulation. Through nurturance, adult support the infants earliest experiences of emotion regulation (Thompson and Goodwin 2005).The purpose of this paper is to correlate the relationship between three major theories of social development. In doing so, seeking to identify, describe, and actively relate each principle requires first and foremost to construct a definition of social development. “Social Development refers to how people develop social and emotional skills across the lifespan, with particular attention to childhood and adolescence. Healthy social development allows us to form positive relationships with family, friends, teachers, and other people in our lives”. As we mature, we learn to better manage our own feelings, in order to respond appropriately to the feelings and needs of others. Such development begins from the day we are brought into this world to the day we seize to exist. It is in fact an active ever-changing footing that is learned through our experiences, as well as our interpretations of these experiences that help construct our own social intelligence.

Author: Vibhuti Rana, Parul Singh

Growing Impact and Importance of Design Education in India has matured over the years and is booming. By 2020, the potential market for design in India is expected to be INR 188.32 billion. From a handful in 2010, the number of design institutions has grown to over 70 by 2016. Given the positive demographics, rising educational aspirations, openness to pursue alternate careers, employment opportunities and increased affordability of higher education, the number of design aspirants is increasing every year. Thenature of fashion education reflects the evolution of fashion education, from the earliest forms of apprenticeship to modern notions of educational systems producing ‘professionals. The majority of curriculum focuses on fashion design and technology, although a few programs offer degrees focused on the business side of the apparel industry. Degree opportunities range from technical diplomas and certificates in such areas as apparel production competencies garment fabrication, sketching, cutting, tailoring, embroidery, and computer-aided design (CAD) and fashion retail management, to four-year bachelor degrees in fashion design. The Indian Government is promoting and supporting design through setting up design clinics and establishment of four new National Institutes of Design. Global corporations are willing to work with Indian designers to understand the local market, which puts the spotlight on design industry. Quality of design education will have to be maintained at a larger scale, because design education is likely to explode. The market is very large and the number of students will grow exponentially, which means that efficiencies will have to be developed to deal with this along with upholding the standards of quality.

Author:

Author:

Author:
