Abstract
ABSTRACT
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, is honored not only for his profound spiritual wisdom but also for his significant roles in advocating social justice, human rights, and the freedom of religion. During a time characterized by religious persecution under Mughal domination, especially under Emperor Aurangzeb, Guru Tegh Bahadur emerged as a symbol of opposition to coerced conversions and tyranny. His teachings emphasize spiritual wisdom, humility, self-discipline, and the pursuit of truth over worldly desires, advocating a life centered on detachment, inner peace, and direct communion with the Divine. Equally significant was his unwavering stance on religious freedom, which led him to sacrifice his life to protect the right of individuals to practice their faith freely. His martyrdom in 1675, in defense of the Kashmiri Pandits' right to follow their religion, remains one of the most powerful acts of religious and moral courage in history. This paper explores the key aspects of his teachings—spirituality, social equality, the defense of human rights, and the protection of religious freedoms—and examines their relevance in today’s context of global religious intolerance, caste discrimination, and social inequality. Guru Tegh Bahadur's life and legacy continue to inspire individuals and movements fighting for justice, equality, and human dignity.
